For Earth, A Moment In Time...

We live in a troubled world at a troubled time. Much is expected of today's citizen. Much comes his way and much is asked. It is a time for action and a time for general discourse.

We shall strive to bring you timely news and information related to those things breaking across the planet, from the economic to the political. We will not write about fires or car accidents or local bureaucratic messes.

For the most part, this site will focus on the larger essence of our existence.

We trust that you will join us on this particular journey. Also being availed is a comments feature at the bottom of each post, which we hope you will use to offer your thoughts and opinions. It is part of being a citizen. One cannot merely climb aboard the train and simply sit back and watch the scenery pass by. Not today.

About Gas Prices...

So you think President Obama is to blame for the rising cost of gasoline? Well, petroleum industry analysts will tell you that nothing ramps up gas prices faster than talk of war. Republicans are doing a lot of that these days as they campaign for the 2012 White House run. Oil production in this country is at its highest level since 2003. And even the ultra-conservative Wall Street Journal has editorialized that President Obama can "hardly be blamed" for the rise in gasoline at the consumer pump. As I've said before, Wall Street speculators jump on war talk and other Middle East unrest to fire-up their stock market brokering (buying & selling). They are not the producers; merely the heartless traders out to make a quick killing. As for those who think consumers "decide" on price, well, that is simply naive. Those of you who were around during the gasoline shortages of the 1970s remember consumers screamed for gasoline at any price... - Editor

WhiteWings Blow It...

Here we go again, ballfans. Why can’t the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings baseball team do anything right? Now, it is pushing a community drive for goods the team wants to send to tornado victims in Illinois. But why not say, "Hey, victims, here’s $100,000 from the WhiteWings." Why beg the community for contributions when you’re fronting the effort? I know Harlingen folks will contribute. They are good people. We would have been greatly impressed had the Wings helped Illinois on their own, something they can’t seem to do on anything... - Editor

The Watchdog...

Sam Losoya has placed his blog on hiatus. We wish the kid well. A student at UT-PA, he brought balance to Harlingen blogging, taking the town's two bloggers to task. Every town needs blogs, as every town needs a blog to watch over the blogs. Already, Harlingen's urchin Tony Chapa is thinking he's back in the game of pushing crap on the community. He's a dropout, is what we hear and, surely, no dropout is going to steer anything in a growing town such as Harlingen. We're sure its readers will keep ignoring the man they say can't write, can't drive and likely isn't even a U.S. citizen... - Editor

Skirt-Chasing Newt...

Court records in Georgia tell a wild tale about Republican Newt Gingrich's first divorce. According to the filings, Newt wanted out of his first marriage to marry a congressional aide. He believed he needed a younger and prettier wife for a presidential run, said a friend of the thrice-married Gingrich, who latered dropped his second wife for yet another congressional aide, present spouse Callista. Gingrich is also accused of leaving his 1st wife while she battled cancer and had no income... - The Paz Files

Alleged fondler Herman Cain, a Republican hopeful for the party's 2012 presidential nomination, has changed his story, now saying he does remember one of the two incidents that reportedly had him making sexual advances at women when he served as director of the National Restaurant Association in the late 1990s. One woman has told her attorney she will come forward if the NRA releases her from an agreement that she not discuss the case in exchange for a 5-figure cash settlement... - The Paz Files

Deal Exposes Bad Blogger...

RGV WhiteWings Welfare...

Now, here's an outrage: The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings asking Harlingen residents to house its baseball players. A for-profit, private enterprise outfit asking such a thing? Would Bass Pro Shops ask city residents to extend a similar courtesy to its employees? I am stunned by this and can only surmise that the WhiteWings ownership will do everything it can to control "their" costs. These players should be housed by the team. Lease rooms at a motel! That’ll help the local economy. I know of no other business that would even consider this. Which one? A local cab company seeking shelter for its drivers? A downtown bar asking for beds for waitresses? A high school looking for rooms for its teachers? Of course not. But the WhiteWings do it without much concern, believing, it seems, that housing a minor league ballplayer surely must leave Harlingen residents in wild-eyed awe. It is absurd, although only the latest episode of amateurish management. Just when you think you’ve seen the worst from this needy ballclub, along comes another ridiculous request… - Editor

Rck Perry's failed bid for the Republican Party's 2012 presidential nomination has him in a deep funk. According to published reports, Perry has been to his State Capitol office only three times since quitting the campaign. He has, however, travelled to a variety of GOP functions and is set to visit Arizona to support the candidacy of adulterer Newt Gingrich. Perry is paid $133,000 annually as governor and he also has tapped into his retirement pension, which gets him another $7,700 a month... - The Paz Files

The Absent Newsman...

Harlingen blogger Jerry Deal issues his first pronouncement on the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings and the team's reported $100,000 debt to the City of Harlingen. Deal, who works for the league in which the WhiteWings play, downplays the debt and says the team is working through its "money problems." Deal claims to be a Journalist with years of experience, yet has written nothing about the team's failure to comply with contractual obligations. The WhiteWings use city-owned Harlingen Field. Sadly, the economic burden of living with the debt has fallen on the backs of city taxpayers... - The Paz Files

President Obama Wins One...

President Barack Obama got an early Christmas present Thursday, when House Republicans agreed to extend the payroll tax. Republican Speaker John Boehner agreed to the 2-month extension that now allows Middle Class Americans economic breathing room. Not approving the tax would have cost Americans $40 per paycheck as of January 1. The bipartisan agreement also extends unemployment benefits that affects many of the 161 million Americans who stood to lose without the extension... - The Paz Files

Anita Perry Whines...

Campaigning with her husband in South Carolina on Thursday, Anita Perry cried a river for a passel of Southern Rednecks: "It’s been a rough month. We have been brutalized and beaten up and chewed up in the press. We are being brutalized by our opponents, and our own party. So much of that is, I think they look at him, because of his faith. He is the only true conservative - well, there are some true conservatives. And they’re there for good reasons. And they may feel like God called them too. Life's Little Pleasures...

Tiny Kyle, Texas some 10 miles south of Austin on I-35 has the charm of a small town. It's growing. And maybe that's why the owners of Bordeaux's, a nifty, 5-star restaurant just off the town square, is doing well these days. We made an evening reservation and visited the small, but elegant eatery last Saturday night. I had a Pepper-crusted New York Strip and Margaret went with a pasta and shrimp plate. Shiraz wine helped. Not at all cheap, yet absolutely worth the Big City check... - The Paz Files
